January 16, 2025
HARRISBURG –Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today announced a $249,782 Building Opportunity through Out-of-School Time (BOOST) grant has been awarded to the LeMoyne Community Center in Washington to support its Homework and More program.
“The LeMoyne Community Center provides a safe, welcoming place for area youth to flourish,” O’Neal said. “The variety of programs offered help students succeed. The Homework and More program in particular helps students academically, feeds them and keeps them out of trouble. I’m pleased this important program was chosen as a grant recipient in order to help more children.”
The funding will be used to expand the Homework and More program to serve more than 250 youth. This free program operates during the school year and serves K-12 students from various school districts in Washington County. In addition to helping with schoolwork, the program offers a variety of enrichment classes to further supplement students’ education. These include book clubs, African drumming, life skills, STEAM sessions, Girl Scouts, cooking classes, sports, Spanish, recreation and photography. Participants receive a nutritious dinner and a snack with transportation available too.
The BOOST grant supports structured programs or activities with engaged mentors and evidence-based/informed practices provided to at-risk, school-age youth before school, after school or during the summer.
